We are in the heart of the Lincolnshire tourist region and there is lots to see and do. No mega attractions here such as Thorpe Park etc, but we have a great variety of enjoyable tourist attractions and all to be enjoyed at a leisurely Lincolnshire pace!
The Thomas Centre is very close to the popular Lincolnshire coast and is situated just 5 miles (as the crow flies) from the beeches at Donna Nook. To the north, just 10 miles away we have the Lincolnshire beeches of Cleethorpes and to the south we have the long flat sandy beeches of Theddlethorpe, Sandilands, Sutton-on Sea, Mablethorpe and Skegness. Click here for more details.
Our nearest coastal area is Donna Nook, now famous for one of the largest seal colonies in the UK. Last year over 1,200 seal cubs were born on the beech in the period end of October to the end of December . Donna Nook is also a famous target practice site for the local RAF (although not when the seals are in town!).
Natural history abounds in this region, with lots of local nature trails, plenty of fishing and endless opportunities for bird watchers on our coastal paths. The largest nature reserve in our area occupies over 5miles of coast line and covers a huge area in land.
For aviation lovers we have lots of RAF interest in this region with the popular WW2 museum at RAF Scampton and the Heritage Centre at East Kirby, home to the ever popular Lancaster Bombers.
Lets not forget the wonderful windmills in this district. We have several commercial modern day wind farms (one in sight of The Thomas Centre) and several of the traditional type with the most popular being the Alford Windmill. The mill produces a range of baking flours from organic wheat and rye grain and is described by many as one of England's finest working 5 sailed mills, one of the gems of rural Lincolnshire.
Finally, let us not forget the steam trains! Running on Sundays and Wednesdays during August and only occasional days for the rest of the year, you really should visit the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway. Only a couple of mile from The Thomas Centre in the next village, this really is a must for the small train enthusiast. This is not a big event, but the care and passion of the team that keep this lovely little line running is to be supported and applauded.
As a result, there is a wide range of tourist attractions within a short distance of The Thomas Centre.
