Accessible Outside Play Areas

Everyone can access our outside play areas.

We believe that play and open spaces should be accessible to all visitors to The Thomas Centre. We also believe that holidays are for relaxing and that this should not mean that you should have to get in a car and drive somewhere for things to do. For these reasons we have a good selection of outdoor play areas suitable for all the family and for your group to enjoy.

For the very young ones we have a soft play area with a range of Springer toys. Great fun for those who like rocking backwards and forwards or enjoying the see-saw with their new found holiday friends.

Then we have a good sized football pitch for those all important family derby matches and most importantly we have the trampoline! Set into the ground (what a great idea!), the trampoline is easy to access and even the parents and carers cannot stop themselves from enjoying the trampoline and the feeling of being a kid again!

Last year, an inspired youth group from Derbyshire started a project to build a live willow tunnel and we hope to see them again next year when they plan to complete “phase 2” of their project. The willow tunnel is already proving very popular with younger visitors.

Last year we incorporated a further 3 acres of parkland giving lots of wide open spaces for walking, talking, running, playing, kite flying, and Frisbee games or just for the sheer enjoyment of so much open space! We also recovered an over grown pond which is now securely fenced and gated for everyone’s safety. The pond makes a lovely picnic area and we hope to have nesting ducks this year.

If you come in the early summer you might be lucky enough to see the Barn Owls and their chicks. Last year for the first time, we erected special barn owl boxes and we had our first brood of two chicks. They arrived in mid June and eventually flew the nest in early August and they were a wonderful sight.
