"We loved our Mary's House so much, we thought about changing the locks, and staying forever, but honesty prevailed!"
Why should anyone want a holiday destination designed specifically for families with an autistic child?
Just see what parents have said about The Thomas Centre:
"Really appreciate the tolerance, understanding and friendliness".
Family from Manchester
A family holiday should be something to look forward to, rather than something to dread. We aim to make this possible for families who may have come to dread the whole concept of "a mainstream" holiday environment.
"Had a lovely weekend. The boys haven't stopped giggling and smiling. They have loved it all - especially the pool." Family from Hampshire
As parents ourselves we have had our years of not being able to go out as a family, to the local pub for a meal, to the local swimming pool for a swim or to take mainstream holidays like everyone else. The theorists refer to this as “normal life”. However, when you are parents of a child with complex needs, the reality is that it is often very difficult to have a “normal life”.
"Excellent stress free holiday, with no staring eyes"
Family from Wigan, Lancs
We found ourselves taking holidays in more and more remote locations. Just to avoid the inevitable stresses and strains of mainstream locations. No doubt from time to time, some of this stress may have been self induced … after all it is very easy to become paranoid about any child’s behaviour in public let alone a child with special needs and unpredictable outbursts.
"No one batted an eyelid at Teigan’s singing"
Family from Leeds
Against this back-drop, we started our very own “Grand Design” project, a luxury holiday park for families just like ours. A place where Jan (the boss!) discusses with you the needs of your family before you book. A place where there is at least some level of personal awareness and experience of the concerns that you may have. This way, we do our best to make sure that this is the right place for you, and that this a holiday destination that you can look forward to and not a holiday that may cause dread.
